Pileated Woodpecker Prints
This crow sized bird is the largest North American woodpecker. The pileated visits once a week and if we do not see him, we can hear his distinctive repetitive call in the nearby woods. There is one sighting we will never forget – a pileated flew into our Lombardy poplar then spotted the suet feeder in the lilac where a hairy and a downy were dining. The pileated joined them. What a treat – three woodpecker species in our lilac!
